DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Flannel fleece

Flannel fleece is a very soft-surfaced, evenly shorn textile material produced from 100% micropolyester fibres. The characteristic feature of this micropolyester-based flannel textile is its very soft, gentle touch, pleasant feel and good thermal sensation. The material's structure is lightweight yet appropriately dense, making it suitable for making various apparel products, baby and children's textiles, cleaning cloths, as well as lining materials. The flannel base material is easy to handle, cuts and sews well, so besides textile industry use it is also frequently used in hobby and craft projects.

Composition and structure

Flannel is made from 100% micropolyester. Micropolyester consists of yarns twisted from extremely fine-diameter elementary polyester fibres, which are structured according to the nature of use. This is also the case for flannel fleece, after which the fibre structure is created through a mechanical process. The surface of the textile is likewise mechanically sheared even, resulting in a soft, tidy surface with a slightly glossy effect.

Thanks to the surface created this way, flannel can provide a pleasantly warm sensation while the material remains relatively lightweight. The micropolyester-based textile has a uniform structure, is more resistant to wrinkling, and generally dries quickly. These properties are particularly useful for products where both softness and practical use are important considerations.

Material characteristics

Flannel has several material properties that make it suitable for making various textile products. The fineness of the micropolyester fibres and the brushed surface together ensure a pleasant feel and good usability.

  • soft, fluffy surface
  • lightweight yet dense textile structure
  • quick drying
  • good moisture absorption for cleaning cloths
  • easy handling
  • easy-to-cut and easy-to-sew base material

These properties allow flannel to appear in numerous textile products, especially where a soft surface and practical use are important considerations.

Applications

Flannel appears in many application areas in the textile industry. For apparel products, various comfort garments such as pyjamas, robes, tops for home wear, or textiles used as lining can be made from it. Due to its soft surface, the material can provide a pleasant sensation against the skin.

This textile is also frequently used in making baby and children's products. It can also appear as a base material for blankets, small textile accessories or various baby care products. For thicker, fluffier blankets, cozy fleece is the obvious choice.

One common application area of micropolyester-based flannel is the manufacturing of cleaning cloths. The soft, fine-fibred surface allows for gentle cleaning of various surfaces, so the textile can be a practical base material for household or industrial cleaning textiles.

It can also be used as a lining material, particularly for garments where a soft inner surface and lightweight fabric structure are important considerations.

Material selection considerations

When choosing flannel, it is worth considering the material's thickness, surface brushing and the intended purpose of use. For cleaning cloths, for example, adequate moisture absorption and a soft surface may be important, while for apparel use, feel and comfort may be the decisive factor. If a sheepskin-effect surface on the lining side is the goal, sherpa fleece is what goes into the garment.

Flannel can be made in various colours and patterns. It can be dyed, printed, sheared-surface, or also made with jacquard technology, allowing you to choose the appropriate variant for different textile projects or products.
