DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Single jersey poly cotton melange
Belonging to the single jersey cotton base materials, Single jersey poly cotton melange is a melange-surfaced knitted fabric made from 50% cotton and 50% polyester, combining the advantages of natural and synthetic fibres. The 160 g/m² weight and 180 cm width make it an ideal choice for both everyday apparel and industrial use.Single jersey poly cotton melange is a modern single jersey textile that combines the natural comfort of cotton with the enhanced durability and shape retention of polyester. The melange – finely speckled, multi-toned – surface provides a distinctive visual appearance that is both sporty and understatedly elegant. Thanks to the knitted structure, the material is elastic and provides comfortable wear, while adapting well to body movement.
Material composition and structural characteristics
The 50% cotton and 50% polyester combination results in balanced properties. The cotton component provides breathability and a pleasant feel, while the polyester increases the material's abrasion resistance, colour fastness and shape-retaining capacity. In the structure of the classic single jersey knit, “V”-shaped stitches can be seen on the face side, and a looped structure on the back side.
The 160 gsm thickness is an optimal choice: not too thin, so it is not see-through, yet light enough for comfortable, all-day wear. The extra 180 cm width allows for efficient use of cutting patterns, which is particularly advantageous for larger production volumes.
Applications
Single jersey poly cotton melange can be used extremely versatilely, especially in areas where both durability and an aesthetic appearance are important. For sportswear, it is an excellent choice for training tops, running tops and light sports trousers, as it withstands strain and frequent washing well. For a more body-hugging, stretchier cut, the elastane versions of stretch cotton jersey are the ones to choose.
In street fashion, it appears as a base material for melange T-shirts, dresses, tunics and thin cardigans. Comfortable sweatshirts and sets for loungewear and homewear can also be made from it. Their neckbands and cuffs are typically made from cotton rib fabric. It is also ideal for workwear purposes, such as company T-shirts, as the blended-fibre structure withstands industrial cleaning and regular use well.
