Plush fabric

Plush fabric is a textile made from a combination of cotton and polyester, one side of which is covered by a dense, short-pile brushed layer, while the other side is smooth with a knitted base. The velvety surface provides slight thermal insulation, and the polyester content increases the material’s durability and resistance. It is popular as a base material for soft toys, plush figures, baby textiles – rompers, baby clothes, sleeping bags –, home textile decorations and adult casual wear. Due to its pleasant feel and velvety appearance, it is one of the most widely used base materials for products requiring comfort and visual appeal. For home textile decoration, the coral fleece fabrics offer a further option.

PLUSH FABRIC DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Plush fabric

Plush fabric is a cotton and polyester-based textile category, known for its dense, short-pile brushed layer on one side that creates a soft, velvety surface. Plush fabric combines the benefits of cotton and polyester fibres: the cotton content ensures natural comfort and breathability, while the polyester fibres add durability and shape retention. The characteristic dense pile surface gives plush fabric its distinctive soft, cushiony feel.

The characteristic feature of plush fabric is its one-sided dense pile structure: one side has a soft, velvety pile layer while the other side is smooth. This construction provides a fabric that is soft and pleasant against the skin while being durable and easy to care for. The dense pile surface also adds slight insulation, making plush suitable for cooler weather garments. For a longer-pile, fur-effect version, see the faux fur fabric.

Plush fabric is easy to cut and sew, though the pile direction should be taken into account when cutting to ensure a consistent appearance. The material is machine washable and maintains its soft feel and appearance after washing. For linings in contact with the skin, a smooth-surfaced cotton interlock is placed under the plush.
